Battles Are Won in the Public Imagination
The Doonsebury comic spoofed PR and the media in it’s lastest two editions. The comic strip has a PR person from media relations writing a press release about civilians dying in a bombing that hasn’t happened.
As one character says, “Battles are won in the public imagination, not necessarily on the ground.” Whether it’s war or celebrity ‘news’, politics or products, the average person obtains most of their information from the media. The comic strip, while laughable, talks about capturing the public imagination, and this definitely hits close to the bone.
Not to get all Bruce Cockburn, if a tree falls in the forest on you, but if the public isn’t paying attention, is news really news?
