Crisis Communication: Tips for Managing your Message

Peter West recently posted about crisis communications following a Globe and Mail article about managing your message in a time of crisis. Using the newspaper’s Crisis Tip Sheet, West, a PR professional and experienced crisis communicator, created his own valuable list of things to remember when communicating in a crisis.
Tip number six is:
Admit to what you don’t know or can’t say and explain why you can’t say it.

We are currently planning a youth media training workshop, and one of the things we emphasize in an exercise about managing your message is admit when you don’t know something and agree to get back to the journalist. A good thing to remember in crisis communication and in general PR.
